Statement
With four decades of experience and over 100 completed realisations, Brunet Saunier & Associés is well known, both in France and internationally, across numerous sectors : healthcare, research, higher education, infrastructures, tertiary sector… Today, the firms boasts a team of approximately 40 collaborators and 7 partners : Jérôme Brunet - who founded the practice with Eric Saunier (†) in 1981 -, Vincent Marchand and Jacques Levy-Bencheton, joined in 2022 by Clément Billaquois, Franck Courari, Garcie de Navailles and Hugo Viellard. This new organization, based on a shared project culture, aims to continue its work through a demanding and systematic approach, while seeking to provide innovative solutions to the major technical and environmental challenges of our time.
From its pioneering buildings using structural glass technology, such as the Saint-Germain-en-Laye administrative centre or the Louvre research laboratories, to the Ecotox research centre in Alixan with its passive bioclimatic facades, and the North Franche-Comté Hospital with its unique implementation of wood in a glass facade, Brunet Saunier & Associés designs technically sophisticated and contextually appropriate solutions. This forward-thinking and innovative approach to construction methods ensures that clients receive unique and iconic projects, often winning awards and recognition : the firm was awarded the Equerre d’Argent prize for the North Franche-Comté Hospital, the silver BIM trophy for the Limmattal Hospital in Zurich (Switzerland) and is listed in the “Remarkable Contemporary Architecture” register of the Hérouville-Saint-Clair district.
From its first hospital projects, such as the Institut Saint Pierre at Palavas-les-Flots, to more recent ones like the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels (Belgium), the practice has developed a typological reflection on hospitals, giving rise to a now widely recognized archetype : the “monospace”. This vision continues to evolve in ongoing projects, such as the University Hospitals of Rennes and Helsinki (Finland), and, for the AP-HP, the New Lariboisère hospital and the Saint-Ouen Grand Paris Nord University Hospital. Beyond the healthcare sector, the practice designs buildings of all types : new RER commuter-line train stations in Issy-les-Moulineaux and Chevilly-Larue as part of the Grand Paris development, the Vision Institute research center in Paris, and the Condorcet university campus in Aubervilliers.
The complexity of these projects has led the agency to innovate in its working methods. A pioneer in the use of digital technologies, particularly BIM, Bruner Saunier & Associés has also integrated numerous related technologies int its project development process, such as 3D printing, virtual reality and data management platforms. The practice is now developing the use of artificial intelligence in “generative design” to anticipate the evolution of architectural practice and address the challenges of the 21st century : how to design sustainably, for the long term, for an uncertain, unpredictable future?
