The Helsinki teaching hospital is equipping itself with a new traumatology and oncology centre, designed by Brunet Saunier Architecture in association with Finnish practices AW2, B&M and Harris-Kjisik. The new building will provide an important link between the existing emergency services and cancer unit, creating a large, unified hospital complex and thereby reinforcing operational efficiency, but also improving user-experience for patients, visitors and personnel.
The project looks resolutely towards the future, both in its architecture as in the methods used in its conception. For the first time, Brunet Saunier Architecture and their partners used the “big room” method, uniting designers and end-users to collaborate throughout the design phase via the immersive Cave automatic virtual environment system.
