The site in Chalon-sur-Saône immediately established itself by its generosity and its landscape qualities. In order to reduce the use of space and avoid as far as possible the flood zones along the Saône, the project sets out to be compact. It makes the most of the singular situation by offering a riverside landscape, creating a large lake and a tree-lined walkway marking the axis of the town’s historical development.

A subtle play of pixelization on the facade makes reference to the geometric patterns of the Burgundian roofs in varnished tiles. This all-over covering in shades of grey-green distracts the eye from openings, leaving just a unified, colourful skin. Once over the threshold, the cool colours of the peripheral facade make way for a warm, caressing light reflected by the yellow-orange tones of the facades of the internal courtyards. Warm colours that are also found in the internal spaces and signage.
